FRANK CHIMERO

October 27, 2009 in Meetings, Speakers by moof

This Wednesday, October 28 at 5:30 we have a cyber-visiting designer/ illustrator named FRANK CHIMERO. He lives and works in Missouri and has been kind enough to set up an iChat visit with us. If you are planning to attend, try to be at the VISUAL RESOURCE COMMONS a little before 5:30 to minimize distractions. Also, there will be a Q&A session afterwards so have some questions ready! Hopefully this goes well because it could open a lot of doors for us in the future. iChat and the internet make virtually every designer accessible to us, especially when they are so willing to participate, as I’m sure most of them are. If there are any designers you personally look up to and would like to hear from let us know! We want you to get as much out of this organization and out of this school as possible, so let us help you!
Also check out these cool pieces PARKER BYRD prepared for this event! The TV will be in the Good Stuff and Better Things show in Gallery West.

GOOD STUFF setup

October 27, 2009 in General, Meetings, Social Events by moof

SOME of us were up at Gallery West for 12 hours setting up the show for this week! We are super excited about it, it looks awesome. It is totally the best show that has been up this year. That is my unbiased opinion. Zach brought his camera and snapped a few shots of us setting things up.. Most of the pictures are actually after everything was set up. So make yourself look busy and visit our FLICKR GROUP to check them out.
Also come to Gallery West on Friday Oct 30 between 7:00 and 9:00 PM for the closing reception. There will be food, music, people, art. Also, at least one person will be wearing a Halloween costume.. You should probably think about adding to that number.

a postal gem.

October 9, 2009 in General by moof

I don’t know about you guys, but there have been multiple occasions in the past while designing an envelope, postcard, etc when I have searched and searched for USPS guidelines and rules– where things can be printed, how much space to leave for barcodes, etc.
Well.. On this, the Ninth of October, Two Thousand Nine years into the Common Era,

I HAVE FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL

Please enjoy the extremely technical jargon and convoluted content of this wonderful resource (With not enough pictures). You’re welcome.

your new homepage.

>>>>>>> http://www.booooooom.com/ <<<<<<<

I felt the need to share this website, some of you might already know about it.. but seriously. I absolutely hate looking at things on the internet because I keep clicking and clicking without seeing a single thing that catches my eye.. but this website.. I seem to be into every single artist. the work they feature spans pretty much every corner of art- except for corporate and super design-y stuff which is alright if you ask me.. I think ‘fine art’ is usually more inspiring on a deeper level than looking at a bunch of identities and letterheads. I hope you discover something that makes your day better.

… and i just found this amazing flickr group:

arguably one of the best resources for illustrations and inspiration i have seen lately.

Paul Smith for Evian

September 24, 2009 in Inspiration by moof

So.. my life got a little better today.

Apparently Evian has been featuring bottles by fashion designers since 2007- First Christian Lacroix, then Jean-Paul Gaultier, and this year Paul Smith. I realize this might not mean that much to non-fashion enthusiasts, but hopefully you will at least be able to enjoy the website and the bottle design. It takes a little long to load, but it has really nice motion and it is nice to see the little world they created; I think it speaks to the design alright. Mainly I just love the idea of fashion and couture designers making water bottles.. Europeans always get it right.
