Okay, so as designers, we should all be somewhat familiar with photoshop; some more than others, and that’s where this article comes in. There’s no right way use photoshop; hell, you can achieve one effect or illustration through many methods. However, there a plenty tried and true methods to abuse photoshop. I’ll be showing you some of the best and worst uses of photoshop I’ve found in a short amount of time. Be sure to check out the links Ive posted at the bottom of this article.
Photoshop Abuse
So you noticed that wonderful cutout of the trackstar (above), so lets look at some other terrible ones worth mentioning, by the way, you can find these on http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/
There are more, but I will move on. Just check out http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/ to view more of the trainwreck. Lesson here, PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing. How no one noticed that the kid is missing a body is beyond me. And as for Time Magazine, well that’s just ridiculous.
Photoshop Genius
Here are some examples of creative uses of photoshop
This artist is out of control; I know you’ve probably seen these but I had to share anyway. He takes cartoon characters, and then through manipulation of source photography, creates the realistic or “untoon” versions of them. Here are the other 2 examples.
Click on the images to go to the site, you really gotta read the commentary for Mario. Here is a link for the main page- http://pixeloo.blogspot.com/ Some people compare his realistic depiction to that of a pedophile.
Oh I almost forgot to mention this artist: Bert Monroy,
That guy is the Master. Period. He paints/builds entirely fake scenes in photoshop, the following pictures are his work:
Now there are a lot more sites out there with great photoshop art, but I thought I would stick to using photoshop in a less “illustrative, wacom drawing” sense. Here are some links that I think you will find useful for great inspiration:
This is an amazing guide on the in’s and out’s of photo manipulation. It is also well illustrated. I would also check out the rest of the site as well. There is a medium amount of tutorials here, but they are all top notch quality.

This site I came across recently, has a mix of tutorials; but once again, highly selective quality.
This site is a database of tutorials from the ends of the webiverse (crappy made up word, I know). It has a search engine and you can find a tutorial for a specific technique in almost any program you can think of. The only downside, you might have to sift through a lot of garbage tutorials before you find the gem.
Well, if you guys have any more websites or examples to share related to this topic, post them in the comments, I’m sure we’d all benefit. I am only one guy you know…Till next time

Good links, man. The untooned stuff is…chilling.
