a lot is going on in the next few weeks– he OVC and otherwise.
expect a post soon about some of the events planned for the semester so far, important dates, etc.. OR JUST CHECK OUT THE SWEET NEW CALENDAR TO THE RIGHT!
for now i want fill everyone in who didn’t got to the DSVC meeting last week (october 1 at cityplace in dallas). Lawrence Azerrad gave a great presentation on his most famous and current works. he designs mostly for bands (wilco, the red hot chili peppers to name a few), but he is also working on identity projects for supercool Silverlake in LA, and he has an incredibly interesting personal (probably life-long) project called Supersonic dedicated to the Concorde. i had never heard of the Concorde before, and let me tell you, my life is meaningful now that i know what it is. actually it is not… it would be if I could take a trip on one though. so you guys should check out his website.. at least just look at the pictures really fast to see how many things you recognize.. and then maybe next time you will actually go to the meeting so you can hear designers make fun of their clients (Anthony from the red hot chill peppers.. what a trip..) because i’m pretty sure katie and i were the only two uta students there.
now to the guts of this post: after Lawrence Azerrad spoke, the president of DSVC announced an event they have planned that is coming up pretty soon here. on wednesday october 22 DSVC 101 is meeting at the williamson printing company at 530 pm for a private guided tour of the printing facility. i know a lot of vis com classes are covering printing right now (pauline hudel’s layout class, andrew klein’s electronic design class).. and even though this tour is probably after your projects are due, this tour is an indispensable opportunity for every student in the vis com program. seriously. do you really want to be throw into one of the most important aspects of graphic design –printing– and have to figure everything out on your own the first week of your first job out of school? really?? the williamson paper company is free to faculty and students. members of the DSVC college club should be there (schools represented in the college club last year were : uta, a&m commerce, twu, smu, unt, tcu, art institute dallas, and westwood college) so ocrotber 22 will also be a great time to get to know other vis com students in the area and start building connections outside of your bubble for when you get out of school.
i dont want to be the only on there, okay!
