Interested in the AIGA or even just design? Come out to our first event of the semester and see some of the things we have planned and how AIGA can help you. We will be going over what being a member means, costs, and the benefits. As well as our tentative calendar.

The event wont be very long, more of an introduction to who we are and what we are all about. As with most of our events it is free to go and open to members and non-members.

Have some great ideas? Interested in doing something cool? We are always open to new things and all members have the opportunity to be involved in leadership. So please come out and see how you can get involved!

Interested in doing some freelance work? AIGA UTA will be holding an event to answer all question about freelancing that you might have. Learn how much to charge for your work, get clients, write up contracts, and much more. Be prepared with questions that you might have about the topic and we will try our best to answer them all. This will be a very informative meeting that will pay off in the future. This event will take place on Wednesday, October 19th @ 5pm in room FA357. PrintEnvy will be hosting its first ever ‘Design Swap Social’ event on November 11, 2011 @ 5:30-7pm in rooms FA357 and FA358. The Design Swap Social is an event that allows artists to come together, share, and exchange pieces between each other. An awesome print that was donated by The Little Friends of Printmaking will also be raffled off. If you are unable to design a piece in time, anyone and everyone is welcome to still come enjoy the social and also participate in the raffle. Opening April 2012, the AIGA Dallas Fort Woth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston chapters celebrate the best of Texas design in the Texas Show. This traveling exhibit will present competition winners with their awards at the regional opening receptions. They will be accepting stellar entries online starting October 17th at www.aigatexasshow.com.

Thanks to Aaron and Erik from Friends of Type and to all who came to the event. If you couldn’t make it, you missed out on a fun and informative chat about typography. We hope everybody had a great time and left inspired to create some amazing typography based work. We have a few more events left on the calendar this semester and we hope to see you guys there.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Carlos Segura lecture and to Pauline who made it all happen. Also a huge thanks to Carlos Segura for coming to UTA and inspiring us as we continue on our path to a career in visual communications. We look forward to having other events such as this one, so continue to support AIGA. Join us for this amazing event at 5pm on Wednesday, October 5th in the VRC (Visual Resource Commons). This will be a Skype event with Friends of Type that is not to be missed. Friends of Type is a typographic/lettering sketchbook, archive, dialogue by Aaron Carámbula, Erik Marinovich, Jason Wong, and Dennis Payongayong. The four have worked together at various institutions and in various roles, recognizing in each other a shared interest in quality design and, in particular, in well crafted type and lettering, but with unique perspectives and talents towards achieving that standard. What they created in late 2009 as a “creative outlet, void of client ‘input’ and a place to have fun” has turned into the hot-spot of inspiration for self-proclaimed type-nerds and design lovers alike.

Renowned graphic designer, Carlos Segura, will be discussing his work at the Art+Art History Department at UT Arlington on September 28th. Recognized in ‘Graphic Design for The 21st Century-100 of the World’s best Graphic Designer’, Segura began his career working for a long list of prestigious ad agencies: BBDO, Foote Cone & Belding, Ketchum, DDB Needham before stepping out on his own with Segura Inc. in 1991. Segura has received numerous awards including The Red Dot Award, The New York Art Directors Club Award, and The American Center for Design Award. In addition, his works have been published in Print, HOW, Rockport, among others.
